COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
For Organizations
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
Reach out to Office of Service Learning at UC. The director, Michael Sharp, can assist with initial communications and deciding if your organization is a good fit for the project.
WHEN DOES THE BPP TAKE PLACE?
The Better Place Project will take place during the spring semester. The next BPP is set to occur from February to April 2023.
HOW INVOLVED DOES OUR ORGANIZATION NEED TO BE?
Students will be receiving vital information and professional development prior to service, with additional reflection afterwards. We ask that service sites are communicative and open to our students, but nothing else is required outside of the service accomodation.
HOW MANY STUDENTS DO WE NEED TO ACCOMMODATE?
Most learning communities in the spring are comprised of 12-15 students. We ask that you accommodate all, but if splitting the group is necessary, we ask that you make prior arrangements with the Peer Leader.
For Students
WHY IS THE BETTER PLACE PROJECT IMPORTANT?
The Better Place Project aims to align your course content with real world examples. Hopefully, throughout the completion of the project, you discover service sites that you would like to continue working with during your undergraduate career. We also hope that you discover passions, hobbies, and interests and realize how to engage with them in the community.
DO I HAVE TO COMPLETE THE BPP?
Yes, successful completion of the Better Place Project is required to pass the second semester learning community and to receive the Service Learning BOK on your transcript. Note that SL is required for graduation at UC.
HOW LONG DOES THE BPP TAKE?
Lesson plans will be dispersed throughout the semester, but the service is a one time thing. Typically, this lasts anywhere from 1-4 hours.
